CYO Basketball Rules 2024-25 Updated 11.1.24
CYO Basketball Parent,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving your child the opportunity to participate in the 2024-25 CYO Basketball season. We are looking forward to a joy-filled and successful season for your child and all the children in our program.
A few things that I would like to emphasize before we tip off the season. It is very important that you know your role as a parent and supporter in the CYO program. A saying that we like to use is to “Cheer, not steer.” This means that as a parent, it is vital for you to cheer positively for your child and the other children on the court and not “coach them from the stands.” We ask that you show good sportsmanship to the players and coaches from both teams as well as the officials and scorekeepers; refrain from yelling anything negative or derogatory.
The officials have a very difficult job, and we are blessed with quality officials who are doing the best they can in managing and officiating the game. The CYO has a Coach / Spectator Discipline Policy that is posted on our website at CYOMobile.org. Any parent or spectator who displays unsportsmanlike behavior is subject to this policy.
We ask that you support the coaches, who volunteer many hours at practice, games, and at home in preparing practice plans and also communicating with parents. Please be positive when speaking about your child’s coach and avoid negative remarks, especially in front of your child.
We need your help to give your child the best experience possible this basketball season. Our mission is to work together to support our young athletes as they grow in their relationship with God and their understanding of the Faith. Be Kind. Be Compassionate. Be Joyful. Be Understanding. Be Positive. Be Catholic.
Yours in Christ,
David Weems
CYO Director
