Winter School Basketball League | Grades K through 6 (Divisions are below)

The BYBL is the #1 Winter Youth Basketball League in the Southern Tier!

Who is eligible to play in the Winter BYBL?

Kids in Grades K-6 are eligible to play. We accept full team registrations and Free Agents

Grades K-2 divisions are coed and are open to all full teams as well as free agents. The K-2 division is not school specific - Full teams can be comprised of kids from any school district in the K-2 divisions (School teams, Rec teams and AAU teams are all allowed in K-2). Free Agent teams are comprised of Free Agents and organized by the Bulldogs staff.

Grades 3-6 divisions are limited to school teams and to Free Agents. Full teams must be school district based or based out of the Conklin/Kirkwood youth organizations. We are not taking any AAU or travel teams in the 2026-27 Winter League for grades 3-6. Free Agent teams are organized by Bulldogs staff and coached by volunteer parents - and are the only exception to the school district based rule.

Grade K-2 Coed Structure

Start Date: December 1, 2026 through Mid to late-February

Game Nights: Games will be played Monday through Wednesdays (1-game per week). Teams can omit ONE (1) night each week not to play games on (must be consistent week to week).

Season Length: 8-game season

Playoffs: No Playoffs

Eligibility: All teams are eligible.

Registration Dates: September 15 through October 31. Registration is first come first serve and league may be full prior to end date if max teams are reached. Payment is due at the time of registration.

All players will receive 1 free season pass valid for all Binghamton Bulldogs home games for all 2026-27 regular season home games.

Pricing:

You can sign your child up as an individual (free agent) and we will place them on a Free Agent team - or you can register your own entire full team to take advantage of a lower per-player rate.

Individual/Free agent: $99.00 per player (registering just your son or daughter)

Free agents play 8-games and are provided with team T-shirt with their registration. The coaches of Free Agent teams are volunteer parents

K-2 Division Full Team Pricing | 8 games: $375.00 per team (registering your own full team)

Grade 3-6 Structure

Divisions

3/4 Grade Girls | 4/5 Grade Girls | 5/6 Grade Girls

*Teams are assigned to a division by Bulldogs staff members based on a combination of your players grades and the results of your first couple games. Requests are not available for which division your team will be placed in.

Start Date: December 2, 2026 through Mid to late-February

Game Nights: Games will be played Monday through Fridays for all divisions. No weekend games! Teams can omit TWO (2) nights each week (must be consistent week to week) to account for their practice night(s). Practice space at BSC is not included - Teams must provide their own practice site or rent space at BSC.

Season Length: 2 games, 4 games or 8 game options. Something for everyone! 2-game and 4-game teams start in January.

Playoffs: 8-game teams are eligible for playoffs and start play in December.

Eligibility: School teams and Kirkwood/Conklin youth teams. AAU teams are not eligible.

Awards: Championship T-shirts to Gold Division winning teams.

Playing in another league? Add a few extra games in the BYBL and we will work around your other league's schedule!! The 2-game and 4-game options are a great way to play a few different teams....We take schedule requests to our email at [email protected]

Winter League will attempt to offer 2 referees for all 5th/6th grade division games. All games in lower divisions will have 1 referee. In the event that we are short staffed or have a last minute call out, a 5th/6th grade game will proceed with 1 referee.
Winter League will require each team a to provide 1 volunteer at the scorers table to run the clock/book.
Flexible Scheduling - We now offer a 4-game, 8-game and 12-game option to help meet your needs. Additionally, Each coach can block out one consistent day per week for you to not have your games. For example if your division plays Thursday-Sunday you can say no games on any Thursdays - and you will not be scheduled on Thursdays.
Top Notch Referees - We have an outstanding squad on hand at the BSC using many of the same officials from last season and incorporating some other quality refs with years of youth, varsity and college experience. 2026-27 will be our most experienced rotation of referees we have ever had.
Preseason Tournament - This tournament is available for school teams who want 2 extra games during the preseason (championship medals to winners).

Additional Information

BSC will attempt to provide 2 referees (based on availability), and 1 table staff for all 5th/6th grade games. BSC provides 1 referee for all Kindergarten through 5th grade games. All teams must have 1 volunteer staff for all games. GAMES WILL NOT START until each team has 1 volunteer. If we are not able to provide 2 referees for a 5th/6th grade game due to a lack of referee avaialability, the game will proceed with 1 referee.
All players must be on a team's official roster with a completed waiver in Leagueapps to be eligible to play.
All teams practice at their own facilities. We do have limited space available if teams are interested in renting facility space to practice.
All teams must provide their own warmup basketball and a game basketball for all games - including BSC games.
Teams are responsible for providing their own insurance, uniforms, equipment, etc.
Each team is allowed 2 coaches per team + 1 volunteer for scorers table for the Kindergarten through 5th grade divisions. Coaches and volunteers must sign-in each game at the check-in desk. EVERYONE (players and coaches) must check in.
$2.00 admission for all spectators age 6 and up at the BSC for all games Kindergarten through 6th grade. Under age 5 is Free.

Grievance Policy/24-hour rule

If you are unhappy about something that occured in one of your basketball games and want to communicate that with our administrative staff, we have a process for that depending upon what your role is with your team:

Parents: If you have an issue, please contact your team coach.

Coaches: If you have an issue, please contact your school coordinators.

Coordinators: If you have an issue, please contact us via email after 24 hours have elapsed at [email protected]

Why have a 24-hour rule? Because emotions can run high in youth sports and it is important that all parties take time to calm down and communicate in an appropriate and professional manner. Approaching our staff or writing a seething nasty email from your vehicle immediately after a game has finished is not something we will tolerate in our league and you will not get a response. Contact your team coach/coordinator if you have an issue and they will contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can we make a schedule request? Specific schedule requests will be reviewed and accommodated as much as possible as long as requests are made BEFORE the schedule is posted in leagueapps. Once we publish the schedule it will not change unless the league admin has to make adjustments (i.e. weather, staffing, etc.). Schedule requests are not guaranteed to be accommodated and must be sent via email (not text or phone call).

2. Can we request to not play on a certain day each week? Teams have the option to request to omit ONE (1) weekday in the K-2 division and TWO (2) weekdays during their regular season game schedule. There will be no requests accepted for playoffs. Any requests must be submitted via email (not text) BEFORE the schedule is posted in leagueapps.

3. Can a player play in a division outside of their current grade? Players are welcome to play UP a division (i.e. a 5th grader can play in the 6th grade division) at the discretion of the parents, child, and coach. Players cannot play DOWN a division (i.e. a 5th grader cannot play down in the 4th grade division). Players can play on multiple teams as long as they team is not within the same age group and they are not playing DOWN.

4. What happens if we do not have enough players to play in a scheduled game? The game will be counted as a forfeit (not rescheduled) and the team canceling will receive a loss in the standings while the opposing team receives a win in the standings. Forfeits do count as a game played. Teams must notify us as soon as possible to give us time to find a replacement team so the opposing team can still get a game in. A "no call, no show" is unacceptable and teams may be removed from the league if this occurs.

5. What happens if our game gets canceled due to weather? We will attempt to reschedule games from that day as long as there is room in the overall schedule to do so. With hundreds of games played in the BYBL every Winter, the schedule is very tight and a reschedule may not be possible.

6. Can I add players to our team after the season begins? Roster changes are allowed but all players must fit the criteria of the league (must go to that school and be grade eligible) AND must be on the team's official roster in LeagueApps BEFORE competing in a game.

7. Can a player play on multiple school teams in the same age group? Not in the Winter league - No they cannot! A player can play on multiple teams if they are in different divisions - However a player may only play on 1 team within the same division.

*The Winter kickoff tournament is open to ALL school teams grades 3-6. Eligible teams include those participating in the upcoming BYBL season and teams playing in other leagues*

Tournament Dates: Friday November 27, 2026 through Sunday November 29, 2026

Divisions: Grades 3-6 only (separate boys/girls divisions).

All teams will play 2 games - Championship Medals for division champions

Game Length: 16 minute halves, clock stops last 1 minute of each half & on all Free Throws & Timeouts

Cost: Only $99.00 per team

Eligibility: All school teams only + Conklin & Kirkwood youth organizations are eligible.

The Winter League Kickoff Tournament is a warmup for all teams prior to their Winter season. Teams will play 2 games each. All Division Champions will receive medals. These games are a great way for your teams to get a couple extra games in prior to their Winter season beginning!

Fall Basketball League | Grades K through 6

Grades K-8 divisions are open to all full teams as well as free agents (individuals). Full teams can be comprised of kids from any school district (no restrictions in Spring/Summer/Fall League).

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade Division (Coed)

League Dates: September 28, 2026 through November 6, 2026

Game Nights: Monday & Tuesday nights (1-2 games per week - NO WEEKENDS)

Game Length: 20 minute practice followed by 30 minute game (15 minute halves, no clock stoppage)

Game Times: Tipoff times range from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and will vary throughout the season.

Season Length: 8 game season

Playoffs: No playoffs

Eligibility: All teams (not school specific)

Registration Dates: July 15, 2026 through September 15, 2026. Registration is first come first serve and league may be full prior to end date if max teams are reached. Payment is due at the time of registration.

This league is for basketball players to work on their skills and get real some game experience. Practices are led by volunteer parents and games are referee'd by a BSC staff member. Games are played on an 8-foot hoop with regular league rules (down below). This league is for all boys and girls Grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

This league is open to all teams Kindergarten through Varsity. For our Kindergarten through modified leagues, please sign up for the same grade the student was in the 2025-26 school year.

For JV & Varsity divisions, please sign up for the grade they are GOING INTO for the 2026-27 school year (rising).

Start Date: June 8, 2026

Registration Dates: March 15 until division is full. Registration is first come first serve and once a division is full no more teams will be admitted!

Eligibility: Full Teams - League is open to ALL teams Kindergarten through Varsity. Free Agents - League is open to Grades K-6 only. Cost is $99.00 per player for 8-game season. Includes Team Jersey.

Game Nights: Kindergarten through Modified: Wednesday through Friday nights | JV & Varsity: Mondays through Wednesday nights (teams can omit 1 night)....NO games on weekends for any teams in the Summer

Game Times: Games will start for the evening around 5:00pm and the last game will conclude at 9:00pm

Choose your number of games: Full Teams 4 games: $200.00 | Full Teams 8 games: $375.00. Free Agents: $99.00 per person (Free Agents are eligible for grades K through 6 only - Free Agents get 8-games).

Playoffs: All 4-game teams play 4 regular season games (not playoff eligible). All 8-game teams play between 6-7 regular season games plus playoffs and a chance to win your division championship.

Roster Size: Free Agent Teams are allowed up to 10 players and 2 coaches (max). No Roster Max on players for full teams but there is a max of 2 coaches (max).

Admissions: There is a $2.00 admission fee for all spectators (does not include players or 2 coaches per team).

Payment Format: Free Agents and full teams in grades K-8 must submit payment at the time of registration. School affiliated JV and Varsity teams may submit payment via check once your school remits check, but you must still register your team below. Checks are due in hand no later than May 15.

5th/6th Grade Division (Separate Boys/Girls Divisions)

Structure

League Dates: March 23, 2026 through May 8, 2026

Regular Season Game Nights: Wednesday, Thursday or Friday nights (1-2 games per week - NO WEEKENDS)

Playoff Game Nights: Monday - Friday eligible

Game Length: 16 minute halves, clock stops last 1 minute of each half & Free Throws

Game Times: Tipoff times range from 4:45pm to 7:30pm and will vary throughout the season.

Season Length: 4 game season or 8 game season. Free Agents (Individuals) are only eligible for the 8-game option.

Playoffs: All teams who sign up for 8 game seasons qualify for playoffs

Eligibility: All teams are eligible to participate

Registration Dates: January 1 through March 8, 2026. Registration is first come first serve and league may be full prior to end date if max teams are reached. Payment is due at registration.

Awards: T-shirts awarded to the players on the winning of each age group. Players must be present at Championship game to get T-shirt.

Pricing

Individual/Free agent: $99.00 per player (registering just your son or daughter)

Free agents are put on the Free agent team with other Individual registrants. Free Agents are provided with team uniforms with their registration.
