Warm-Up vs. Practice: Know the Difference
They are not the same thing.
Warm-Up = Get Ready to Play
Warm-up is about preparing your body and mind to compete. This is not the time to fix your swing.
Start with short wedges, build solid contact, move into irons and driver, and finish with the shots you expect to hit on the first hole.
On the putting green, make short putts from 3–6 feet to build confidence, then spend time on lag putting to get your speed right.
Mindset:
“I’m playing with what I have today.”
Do not:
Practice = Get Better
Practice is where improvement happens. This is where you work on a specific part of your game and build skills that lower scores.
Do not just “hit balls.” Have a plan before you start.
A good practice session should include work on:
Use targets. Track your misses. Learn your patterns. Practice with purpose.
Mindset:
“I’m here to improve something.”
The Difference Matters
Warm-Up = Performance Mode
Practice = Learning Mode
If you practice like you warm up, you probably will not improve much.
If you warm up like you practice, you will think too much when it is time to play.
