Player Substitutions will be made if a team will not be able to field 10 skaters for a game, except in the case of an ejection.

Subs ratings must be the same or less than the player they are subbing for, example a 3 rated sub can sub in for a 1, 2 or 3, but not a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9.  A 5A cannot sub in on B line for a 5B.  Any discrepancies must be approved by the opposing captain.

Subs will play any position assigned by the captain.
Subs will sit when there is a penalty.
Subs will serve the penalty for the goalie or too many men.

Subs cannot be used to sub in when the goalie is pulled.

Subs cannot be used in shootouts.

Violations of the Substitution Rules will result in that team forfeiting the game.

Less than 10 skaters

9 skaters: 3 defensemen – No A line player rated 1 or 2 is allowed to play B line, any A player playing on B line may only play defense.  If a team is shorthanded as the result of a game misconduct, they will play the remainder of the game shorthanded on whichever line the offending player is on.

Substitution Rules - Playoffs

Subs must be from a current CMHL roster, Sunday or Wednesday.

Subs ratings must be less than the player they are subbing for, example a 3 rated sub can sub in for a 1 or 2, but not a 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9.  They only exceptions are any A line player rated a 4 can be subbed with another 4 and a B line 7 can be subbed with another 7.  Any discrepancies must be approved by the opposing captain.

If you need more than 4 subs for a playoff game, you will forfeit the game.  If it is for the finals, the next top seeded team will substitute in the finals.

Violations of the Playoff Substitution Rules will result in that team forfeiting the game.

Goalie:

A team may pull their goalie near the end of the game or during a delayed penalty and skate with an extra skater.  If B line is out and an A line player comes in for the goalie, the opposing team may sub in an A line player, but any A line players coming in to play on the B line cannot be rated a 1 or 2.
