Memo to All Teams

Code of Behavior
This SPN Code applies to all team members (in uniform or not) scorekeepers and team supporters. The Umpires, opponents and fans are to be treated with respect. Profanity is not acceptable from anyone connected with our teams and will be dealt with according to the SPN Rule Book. Fans ARE NOT ALLOWED to “say what they want” since they are “not on the team!” We encourage players to bring their families (including children) to our games and they should not be subjected to outbursts of profanity and insults. Our Umpires are being instructed to deal with this matter stringently! Most of our teams exemplify our League’s Philosophy which is, to compete fairly and have FUN doing so!
REMINDERS:
1)Umpires and Team Contacts are being asked to include players’ numbers along with their first and last names on the Line-up Cards.
Rationale: Scorekeepers and Umpires can keep track of the batting order, in case someone bats out of turn. It also helps Umpires when incident reports need to be submitted.
2)One scorekeeper and players in uniform only are allowed in the dugout area. Players not participating, who are not in uniform, must stay out of the dugout area. For safety reasons, teams are not allowed to have bat boys/girls or children in that area as well.
3)There is to be “No tagging at home plate” (contrary to SPN Rules) in our league and tournament play. Runners coming from third to home plate MUST NOT “run the baseline” but should stay well away from the catcher, home plate and the board! You have ample space to cross the scoring line at all diamonds at the Complex. Any player who violates this league rule will be called “OUT”!
If contact is made with the catcher, the Umpire has the authority to a) warn or b) eject the offending player from the game (as well as record the “out”). Intentional contact will be dealt with severely by the Executive.
4)Use of Alcohol: Our teams have been excellent over the past few years by not drinking at the COMPLEX before or after our league games. Starting immediately, any team member reported drinking by the Executive, the Complex Staff or a team from our league, will be assessed a $50 fine which will be taken from their bond and replaced before their next game. A second offence will result in a $100 fine and possible expulsion from the league. This applies to league and tournament play!
Your Executive likes a “cold one” as well as the next player! Let’s save it for your favourite watering hole or someone’s backyard. We enjoy the facility and we are only trying to work with the Complex Staff.
The SNCSPL is going strong – thanks to you!
You can try to win and still have fun!
Our Umpires are doing a fine job! The reputation of the SNCSPL and SPN are a prime example of that! If you don’t agree with a ruling, it is good practice to look up the rule in the SPN 2018 Rule Book you received at registration. It is a good way to learn. Our Umpires write an exam every year and although they are not right on the rules 100% of the time...they are pretty close and work hard at making the right call!
If you have a concern(s) re. an umpire, please address them
in writing to me, Bonnie Branch and please be specific!
See you on the diamonds!
Cheers, Bonnie
