Child Protection Policy:
Anyone coaching or in “substantial” contact with children is required to complete an application, training and fingerprinting/background check process before doing so. Contact our Virtus Coordinator for questions on how to complete the process.
Steps to take for Virtua Training:
1. Contact Sister Roberta Harding at: [email protected] or 301-681-7634 to make an appointment.
2. The process of filling in form and doing the electronic check on my computer takes all of 15 minutes. They must have 2 forms of governmental ID with them. The driver's license or ID and one other - passport, social security, governmental or Military ID with picture etc.
3. The electronic background check has to be done in my office, through the portal that goes straight to the Archdiocesan connection for the check to be done.
4. Attend the Virtus training class (see links below) and retrun the class certificate to Sister Roberta for filing with the parish.
5.ADW is Archdiocese of Washington Child Protection Office in combination with the government records the clearance.
It is part of our parish database which is connected to the Archdiocesan database which is found in Virtus, the National program that records the clearances and the background check records for most of the dioceses in the US.
