How do D-1, D-2 and D-3 programs compare?
There is nothing about a D-2 or D-3 program that implies less intensity. Baseball will be central to your college experience and you will be working out or playing year-round. It is highly competitive ball. While D-3 programs do not award athletic scholarships, you will find that financial aid is often available. The baseball coach’s support may help during the admissions process.
If you feel you are a D-1 prospect, it will be because you are playing ball at a level above your peers and have numbers to show it. If you and your parents feel you are in that category, talk with your coach about it and he will give you guidance. If you are on a track that could lead to D-1 play, it will reveal itself early. If you are a junior or senior and are not solidly on that type of track, focus on D-2 and D-3. Do not think of it as less of a baseball experience. And if you continue to develop and have the potential to go further in baseball, you will be noticed at the D-3 level as easily as at D-1.
