AGSA Playing Divisions
AGSA is open for girls 5-16 years of age (age based on December 31st of the previous year). Here is a comparison of the divisions:
- 6U (also known as "Tee Ball") - This division is open to girls 5-6 years old (some exceptions are made for 4 year olds). It is a non-competitive division (no umpires, scores, or standings) with girls hitting off either a tee or a coach soft-tossing.
- 8U - Open to girls 6-8 years old this division will have the girls pitching for the 1st time. Pitching distance is 30 feet and a 10" RIF (reduced-injury-factor) ball is used. Stealing is allowed (except for home plate).
- 10U - Open to girls 9-10 years old. At this level girls are subject to all the rules in fast-pitch softball - hot plate, dropped 3rd strike, open stealing, infield fly. Pitching distance is 35 feet and an 11" RIF ball is used.
- 12U - Open to girls 10-12 years old. At this level girls are subject to all the rules in fast-pitch softball - hot plate, dropped 3rd strike, open stealing, infield fly. Pitching distance is 40 feet and a 12" ball is used.
- 14U- Open to girls 12-14 years old. Same rules as the 12U division. Girls who signup but make a ANY high-school team are NOT eligible to participate in any fashion, including practices.
There are exceptions to the above rules regarding age:
- Girls are allowed to play down one division at the request of parents and with board approval. For example, a 11-year-old girl could be moved down to the 10U division. 17-year-olds WILL be allowed to play IF there is a separate 16U division.
- All divisions will be participating in interleague play. This will be limited to other East County leagues.
- For more details on age eligibility and other information please reference the AGSA Rules & Regulations.
