FAQ

When season starts/ends

  • The dates of the tennis season are mandated by GHSA.
  • Tryouts start in early January.
  • Matches start late January or early February.  Regular season play ends late March/early April with playoffs to follow.

How do try outs work?

  • Attendance is mandatory for all potential players based on schedule set by coaching staff.
  • Coaches may switch between drills and ladder play.
  • Cuts are made by coaching staff and listed on the website through out the try process.
  • Those selected to play for Lambert will be placed on Varsity or Junior Varsity from the pool of potential players attending tryouts.  There is no freshman tennis team.
  • To reduce distractions for both potential players and coaches, spectators are not allowed at try-outs.
  • Tryout may be held at somewhere other than Lambert.  Transportation is the responsibility of the potential player/parent.

What happens if weather affects tryouts?

  • At the discretion of the coaching staff, tryout days can be extended, match play can be set for players over weekends and holidays, or days can be cancelled from the try out schedule.

Coaching Practice expectations

  • Players are expected to attend all scheduled team practices.  The team coach must approve any exceptions.
  • Players are expected to be on time for all practices and promptly picked up afterward.

How matches work

  • Attendance is Mandatory for ALL team members for the duration of the meet including cleanup afterward.
  • All players are required to wear the uniform designated by the coaches.
  • Line-ups are set and shared by the coaching staff.
  • Three lines of singles and two lines of doubles are played at each meet.
  • Each line is best of two out of three sets.  The third set can be either a full set or a 10-point tiebreak as decided by the coaching staff.
  • Cheering is allowed and encouraged.

Why does my child need to go to matches when not in the line up?

  • This is a team sport where proper, positive cheering is allowed and encouraged.  Players on the court need and enjoy the support of their teammates.  Attendance of all players helps to create a supportive team environment, which is unique to a traditionally individual sport.

General overview of expenses

  • Every person who makes the team is responsible for his/her dues
  • Dues cover any school scheduled transportation, uniform pieces, coaching, portion of court maintenance, match food, balls, etc.
  • Dues do not cover personal items such as shoes, racquets, or stringing as well as some uniform pieces.

How transportation works

To properly schedule transportation, matches are classified by distance.  Transportation will be communicated once the match schedules are finalized.  Below is a description of the three classifications:

  • For close matches, transportation is the responsibility of the player/parent
  • Intermediate distance matches are usually carpooled and require a transportation waver.  The team mom coordinates carpool.
  • Those matches deemed to far to carpool will use school busses, again covered by transportation waver.

Parent’s expectation to volunteer:

  • In order help maintain low dues, we do require a lot of parent participation.  There are opportunities at varying levels of commitment.
