Feeder Coaching Expectations

Feeder Coach Expectations

Our feeder coaches are volunteer parents who wish to help promote the fundamental philosophies of the Marquette Basketball program.  Feeder coaches will be required to plan Thursday practices.  I will be there for most Sunday practices (5th - 7th Grades). Feeder coaches will also be required to communicate effectively to parents, players, and the high school coaching staff, as well as our Head of Feeder Basketball Operations Staff Member, Casey Adams.  Feeder coaches will be determined after the teams have been established.  If you are interested in coaching a feeder team, please contact Coach Schweain via email after the teams have been determined.  Specific expectations of all grade-level coaches are as follows:

1.  All coaches will give equal playing time in every game.

2.  All coaches will use appropriate language at all times in our program and conduct themselves in a way that promotes a positive environment for all players, coaches, officials, and parents.

3.  Coaches will refrain from arguing with officials. Absolutely No Technicals.

4.  Coaches will teach and reinforce the fundamentals (shooting, ball-handling, layups, passing, man-to-man defense, and rebounding) in all practices.

5.  Coaches will play all man-to-man defense.  No zone defense is allowed in our feeder program.

6.  Teams can utilize a full court press, but only man-to-man full court presses are allowed.

7.  Coaches will understand that wins and losses do not determine success in our feeder system. Yes, we want to push athletes to play at a high level but we will do that in a controlled, mature environment. Yelling at kids for mistakes will not be accepted.

8.  Coaches will utilize the set plays and in-bounds plays consistent with the Feeder Player Handbook.

9.  Coaches will teach the basic concepts of motion offense (cutting, screening, spacing, and ball-movement).

10. We want to make this a fun experience for everyone involved. We will win... or lose... with class.

Yours in Basketball
