Good Sportmanship

The act by Cunningham and Lewis to own several youth sport team, the Bulldogs could have been viewed as an act just like any other, this is not the case. The non-profit organization was looking beyond that. It is about the noble act of inculcating good and upright behavior among children. The virtue of good sportsmanship was well in the minds of the company mission. The main objective of Cunningham and Lewis is to teach the children values, learn how to play together, and leave violence and negativity out. In essence, it is all about the kids learning good sportsmanship.

The art of good sportsmanship transcends beyond the sport itself. When young children are nurtured into the art of good sportsmanship from a young age, they grow up to become responsible adults. Good sportsmanship is driven by a few principles that are critical when the children have the opportunity to learn. The principles the team will follow are:

  • Open communication and understanding
  • Respecting and appreciating each other.
  • Taking responsibility of one's actions.
  • Accepting teammates the way they are and encouraging them in their sportsmanship.
  • Losing with dignity and winning with class.

Thus, the principles are many, but the ones above are the main tenets. The Bulldogs will interact with these sportsmanship principles on a daily basis.  The main idea behind the creation of this team is to combine the above good sportsmanship principles while at the same time inculcating the value of being a team player. Such young kids when they are growing up they encounter many challenges that have a direct bearing on their lives. When there is no positivity in a child life, negative peer pressure, unruly behavior, and rebellious acts leading to violence are common among such kids. They find themselves entangled with such vices and end up growing in a manner shunned that could have been avoided. Cunningham and Lewis want to be a positive role model for our team player by giving them the opportunity to learn that it is to be an outstanding team player and positive role models for other children to learn from. This act is one of the things that the Bulldogs will take pride in doing as seen in the faces of our team.

At the same time, the act of becoming team players and improving the lives of the Bulldogs is one thing Cunningham, Lewis, and the coaches are committed to achieving. As has been indicated, the focus is beyond the pitch. It also involves their personal lives. From time to time, interactive sessions are shared between the member on the level of their progress and the lessons they have learned beyond the pitch. It is one of the most important moments for the members as it fosters relationships and ultimately they get to learn how to be effective team players. The progress so far for the Bulldogs has been great, and it can only get better. Cunningham and Lewis will continue to support the teams as our plans are to incorporate more team members for baseball.
