2022 LEAGUE RULES FOR CHAMPIONS BASEBALL OWASSO * REC AND COMPETITIVE LEAGUES
* 2022 LEAGUE RULES & GUIDELINES *
In our continued effort to be pro active, innovative and continue to be #1 in Oklahoma youth baseball, Champions Owasso Baseball will continue “one night a week” league play in 2022, which will allow teams some actual weekly practice time, require families to make only one trip a week to the ballpark (less any makeups) or simply just more time off with families during the week. We also will be starting/ ending week night league games at set times and have inning run limits all in an effort to bring more parity to league play and get the kids and all participants home as soon as possible. We also hope this helps encourage some tournament only type teams to get back to do league play with it now being just one night a week.
The continued success of Champions is directly related to the support and overall character of our coaches, parents, players and umpires. We realize the majority of all our teams, Rec & Open, strive to become the best they can each season and hopefully these new changes to league will assist everyone to reach their goals and make league play more enjoyable. Together we will continue to tweak our rules, league set up and provide nice facilities for play.
Thanks!!.....
PLAY ONCE A WEEK: We will make every attempt to have teams come out to play league games only once per week (less any rain make ups). Game nights are Mon, Tues and Thurs nights with Weds used first for make ups. Teams may be required to play approx. 2 - 3 double headers during the season to accomplish the one night per week trips. There will also be single game weeks as well in league.
Champions Baseball Owasso will use USSSA playing rules as a guideline for your team / league rules. Champions will have "Park Rules" that will supercede any USSSA playing rules. We encourage our league coaches input on rules suggestions, modifications, etc. that may make your particular age groups league games play safer, smoother, etc.
Champions Owasso will also reserve the right to add, change or alter any playing rules as needed during the season. It is always the coaches responsibility to know the playing rules... BEFORE... playing any games.

Champions Owasso will reserve the right to add change or alter any playing rules as needed during the season. It is always the coaches’ responsibility to know the playing rules before playing any games. Also see individual age group rules and usssa rules.
1. TEAM REGISTRATION: NO usssa registration is required for REC. teans /league play 2022.
* All competitive teams must register with USSSA BEFORE any league or tournament games are played. Registration fee is paid by the Head coach and or shared as a team expense along with.... baseballs, uniforms, background checks, etc.
2. EJECTIONS: Any coach, player, parent or fan ejected from any Champions Baseball Owasso game/event will be immediately suspended from the current game ejected from and the NEXT 2 (two) GAMES that his/her team actually plays. This suspension can and will run into the next season, year if need be to satisfy the total suspension to completion. Those ejected must leave the park and go into the parking lot within 3 minutes of ejection notification, no exceptions other than players under the age of 18yr. must stay inside the park/ball field area unless in the presence of parent / legal guardian.
3. COACH PITCH.....in 5 - 6yr old league play: .
Each batter gets 5 pitches....if the batter fails to put the ball in fair play after 5 pitches that batter would be awarded 1st base, if first base is open - like a walked batter. The batter will be officially charged with an out. If this batter does eventually score....then his run will count. Of course if he was the 3rd out of the inning then the inning is over as usual.
Otherwise everything plays as usual. You can field 10 (or more sometimes if both coaches agree) fielders, bat the entire line up, coaches can get on the field as long as they stay out of the way, to help their players as needed.
5 & 6yr old use the "limited flight" safety ball. No "T"s are allowed to be used.
3a. Coach Pitch... 7yr & 8yr old: players get 6 pitches or 3 swinging strikes. If player fails to put the ball in play after the 6th pitch or 3rd swing-whichever comes first- the player will be "out". IF the 6th pitch is fouled off....the batter continues to bat until he misses or doesnt swing at a pitch or hits the ball fair.
3b. Coach Pitch.....ALL ages.....IF SHORT PLAYERS: In 5yr thru 8yr if short players teams.just bat your bench offensively, take an automatic out after the last batter and continue on as normal. Defensively you may borrow players from the other team if they are inclined. Teams may start with 8 players....if they only have 7 or less players at start time it will officially be a forfeit but the 2 teams may go ahead and play with those who did show up.
3c. Coach Pitch....KILLING THE PLAY.... Base runners may advance on a fair hit ball until either an infielder or umpire “kill” the play. ANY “INFIELDER”, standing within fair territory of the “infield area” can “kill” the play by holding the ball up in the air and then the umpire calling “time” out. Base runners will stop where they are at and or be placed on the correct base, in the umpires judgment, by the umpire. These are judgment calls by the umpire and are never open to protest.
4. BACKGROUND CHECKS: * ALL recreational coaches and those who will be on field coaching or in the dugouts during recreational games or practices are required to complete the Shields background check or provide proof of law enforcement, school employee verification. Failure to complete background check may result in immediate, permanent removal from the team and the league for the year and possible forfeiture of any and all games.
5. OFFENSIVE PLAYER PARTICIPATION RULE - REC. LEAGUE ONLY: All recreational teams in league play are required to bat a continuous line-up of all present, eligible, uniformed players. Once a player is set in the batting order it can not be changed. Players who may arrive after a game has started will be added to the end of a lineup.
6. DEFENSIVE PLAYER PARTICIPATION RULE - REC. LEAGUE ONLY: All players who are listed on a teams batting order in any and all recreational league games are required to play at least one (1) inning DEFENSIVELY. Failure to satisfy this requirement could result in forfeiture of said game plus the next scheduled game(s). Indefinite coaches' suspension and or removal could also result. IN ADDITION: Those players who, for whatever reason, did not get to play their 1 inning, MUST START the 1st inning of the next league game played and the 2nd inning as well. This rule #6 will be waived and no penalty applied in the event of run rules, rain outs, etc.
7. GAME BASEBALLS: Each team will supply two new out of the box, quality baseballs to the home plate umpire before the game begins. In inclement weather and or wet field conditions this rule can be waved. Umpires will have final decisions on game balls. 5 and 6yr old use the "limited flight" cushioned safety ball.
