2021 Highlights
The Bandits and the Silverbacks faced off for the first time in their team history and it was a very competitive game. Pitching for both teams was excellent. The Bandits took an early lead, but had a couple things work against them late in the game as the Silverbacks came back to defeat the Bandits 3-2. Both Kyle Johnson and Eli Schonrock threw very well. The Silverbacks also came up with some impressive defensive plays to hold the Bandits from scoring late in the game.
The Bandits have been playing some good baseball as of late after defeating the Nowthen Knights 17-4 and then losing to the Anoka Bucs in an extra inning showdown 5-6. Quality pitching, defense and batting have been on full display for the Bandits. Many new young players have stepped in and contributed to the teams success. Some notable contributions include Owen Rumpca's 3 hit, 5 RBI game vs Nowthen along with newcomer Corbin Donnor getting a base hit in his first ever town ball at bat on the first pitch! The Bandits also got some very good innings out of Parker Leipzig, Owen Rumpca and Eli Schonrock in the Anoka game. Another positive for the Bandits is they have reduced their walks and fielding errors significantly in the last few games.
The Bandits travel to Mora to take on the other Eastern Minnesota league powerhouse the Blue Devils. In the end the Bandits couldn't get out of town with a victory as we left the a runner stranded on 3rd base in a 10-9 game. But it was a great game with lead changes going back and forth. Both teams had some good and bad moments in the heat. But all in all the Bandits played a very good team and played them hard through out the game. Including giving the lead up and being down by 3 going into the 9th inning. The Bandits could have easily just mailed in their 9th inning and went home, but they put together another good inning of at bats and gave themselves a chance right up to the final out. The team has improved every step of the way so far this season and we all believe good things are ahead for the team as all players are contributing and continuing to grow together and improve. Thanks to Mora for the schedule change and having us up to Mora. It was very nice of Jay to reschedule the game to a day he knew he couldn't be there and come up in the morning and get the field ready on the same day as his daughter's high school graduation open house I'm sure he was busy enough already. They are year after year a very good team and proved to be a good early season test for the Bandits.
Last night the Bandits were in beautiful Hinckley to play the Knights in our league season opener and came away with a very nice team victory by a score of 10-6. It was a close and competitive game the whole way. With the Bandits having all four elements of the game working with solid pitching, timely hitting, solid defense, coupled with a positive attitude. Teams that are able to do that on a regular basis can generally be a very successful team. I would like to say thank you to all the behind the scenes people that make Hinckley the place that it is. Tim,Jeremy, Jodie,Derrick, Shawn, Josh, and Judd. Also thanks to new coach Ted and to all the Hinckley super fans. These are all people who are responsible for making the Hinckley experience what it is!
Sometimes it's just nice to see old friends! The Bandits traveled to New Richmond Wisconsin last night to play the Millers. As the Bandits have now been doing this for over a decade. I remember a long time ago I was sitting in a restaurant having breakfast and I got a call from a guy named Ryan, he said he coached the New Richmond team and would we be interested in playing and we've been doing that ever since. That is one of the greatest things about town baseball the people you get to meet and become friends with over the years. The Bandits fell short on this game 10-3 but as always there are always positives in any game if you choose to find them and that is what we always try to do. The Bandits have a great mix of new players to the team and veterans. The new players have all contributed in the games this season and done an outstanding job!
Thank you to Hinckley for a great time at this year's Leadoff Challenge!! As always great field conditions, concessions, and announcing! Thanks to everyone in Hinckley that makes that happen over and over! The Bandits go 2-0 in the tournament with a 5-3 victory over St. Michael on Saturday and a12-0 victory over Erskine on Sunday as the Bandits played very well in both games and came away with two nice team wins!! Thanks to the fans of the Bandits Nation for all your support over the weekend! The Bandits wish all the teams that were in Hinckley this weekend good luck on the rest of this year's season!
As always what a great place to be in Hinckley playing baseball. The 5/21 game was no exception as the Bandits were honored to be present for the Inaugural induction ceremony for the Hinckley Hall of Fame! The first 4 members to go into the Hall certainly have a very common theme to them as they should. It's Brennan. As that was, is, and always will be Hinckley baseball! As J.M. Brennan J.D. Brennan James Brennan and Dennis Brennan are the 4 Inaugural members. Thank you for hosting a wonderful event once again with the lead off challenge.
T
Bandits fall 14-4 to powerhouse of the Eastern Minnesota league in the second annual Poppy game played in Isanti. Second game of the season did go better than the first, hitting was vastly better with Mason Price hitting his first homer as a Bandit. We want to give a big thank you to Steve and Dave in Isanti for hosting the game. With a very big thanks to Murray Hermanson who's idea it was to start having the game in the first place. The game was highlighted by the Rum River color guard presenting the colors on the field during the national anthem and the mayor of Isanti throwing out the first pitch! But for myself personally I think the real highlight is remembering the Veterans of Anoka and Isanti counties that have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country and their communities! We live in a land that that we may or may not always agree with. But we do live in a free land and that is something to be proud of! The Bandits Nation wants to sincerely thank the fallen and lost Veterans as well as all our nations Veterans past, present and future!!

East Bethel Puts Together a Team Effort to Earn the
Win Between the Bandits Teams!
It was truly a battle between two Bandits teams in the early innings at Larson Field. Steve Jelmberg took the mound to start the game for East Bethel and clawed his way through four and two thirds innings giving up only 4 runs. At this time Rum River was ahead 4-3, but Jelmberg had kept it a close ball game keeping his teams hopes alive. Josh Kosel had come up huge in the 3rd inning hitting a 2 RBI double. Kosel would go on to total 4 hits in the ball game. Nick Solberg relieved Jelmberg and got his team out of a jam with runners on base closing out the 5th. The score remained 4-3 until the 7th inning. Brenden McCauley, Josh Kosel and Warren Baumen had reached safely to fill the bases. Tyler Marcio drew a full count walk bringing in the tieing run. Tyler Rousu followed that with a crucial opposite field double scoring 2 and putting the team up 6-4. Nick Solberg continued to keep the Rum River offense at bay while East Bethel put up another big inning in the 8th scoring 3 more runs. Things started to tighten up defensively for East Bethel as Rum River's meat of the order was up with the bases full and one out. The suspense was short lived when Joe Solberg entered the game and struck out both batters to end the inning. Solberg closed out the rest of the game allowing no runs as the East Bethel Bandits won 11-4 and earned their way into the regional tournament! The entire team contributed in the effort! Joe, Nick and Steve all pitched very well on the mound. The Bandits got plate production early scoring 4 runs in the first three innings, but coasted a bit until the 7th when they added three and then added 2 more in the 8th. Mitch Schacke led the offense ordering up 2 "Mitch Doubles," drawing a walk and driving in 2 RBI. Tyler Rousu also sported a 2 hit 2 RBI game. This means we will have another post season "Battle of the Bandits" as Rum River advanced in their game vs. Nowthen. This game was postponed and will likely take place Monday night in Cambridge. The winner will advance to the regional tournament.
Bandits Bats Produce Early for 2nd Straight W!
The Bandits bats came out early and often vs Chisago as they put up 4 multi-run innings to start the game. This gave Nick Solberg plenty of room to work with a comfortable lead.
