1st & ONLY..... 2022 COACHES MEETING
Mandatory Coaches meeting:
Wednesday, February 9 from 6:30PM - 8:30PM
Owasso Community Center - Ram Room
301 S Cedar
Owasso, OK 74055
2022 - Teams are allowed to come into the Rec league with either partial or full teams. This is in an effort to help families and kids play with their neighbors, school buddies, church friends, etc. If a team comes in without a full roster, the league will try to fill their roster from the appropriate rec player pool fed by player registrations. 12 players is the maximum the league will make a coach take, but coaches can take more at thier own discretion. Players are assigned to a team/roster at random. No Rec team can have any kind of tryout, etc. to bring in kids for their team. This format will only work with the cooperation and effort of the coaches. We had good overall success with this format last year and expect the same this season. Hopefully teams will stay together more for the most part with this format. We understand everyone wants to win but the main focus for rec league ball should be development of the kids and for the kids to get to play with their buddies and have fun. Abuse of this format will be dealt with as needed.
FOR 2022 REC. LEAGUE....
(1) Teams returning with their 2021 rec team. Small town rec. teams (Skiatook, Sperry, etc.) are also eligible for rec league play at Champions on a case by case, pre-approval basis.
(2) players may stay on their current, last years 2021 team....IF...the team is staying together for 2022, or... if the majority of their 2021 team is staying together. League officials will fill in any vacant spots from the upcoming 2022 player pool. Most all rec. teams will carry 12 players-coaches are NOT required to carry more than 12 players.
(3) players may leave their 2021 team and go back into the upcoming 2022 spring player pool or find a vacant spot on a returning 2021 rec team. (* Be aware that not all players in the player pool end up on a team...we can only fill teams that have coaches....last year we had over 100 kids without a coach/team but thanks to several parents stepping up to coach most all got on a team.)
(4) BRING IN A NEW 2022 REC TEAM.....coaches may return/bring in a full or partial rec team of players. Any and all teams coming in are required to fill any vacant spots if necessary from the league player pool if need be, up to 12 players.
(5) NEW 2022 PLAYERS... and.... players that leave established teams.....will register, then go into the player pool (if not on a team) as usual and will either... (A) be placed on established rec teams as spots are/if available and or (B) be grouped together with 10-12 kids as a whole "new" team.
(6) AGE GROUPS: Players should play in the age group that they will be on April 30, 2022. Players may play “up” one age…(i.e…..a 9yr old may play up with a 10yr old team, etc.) Players can NOT play “down” in age, unless they qualify for the group by school grade (as noted below). All age groups will be separated if enough teams enter to make an age group.

COACHES AND PARENTS CHECK LIST
1. Agree that....ALL parents will share equally in “team expenses” including, but not limited to....uniforms, baseballs, catcher gear (if needed), coaches background checks, batting cage rentals/practice fees, tournament fees, scorebook, etc. Be a team player!
2. Get uniforms ordered asap.
3. Read age group rules for USSSA baseball and league rules, read all of coaches packet.
4. Practice .....coaches decided how often. It is suggested at least once a week. Look at church land, schools, grandpa’s farm, etc for place to prac.
5. Teams have shared a couple team bats if not everyone wants to buy one for each kid, especially younger teams. Bats must be USSSA stamped.
6. Need to get a scorebook and a couple folks to keep score.
7. All parents/coaches should get some plastic “wiffle” type balls to hit at home in the yard and at practice....this helps everyone especially the player!
8. A good change of pace is to also hit some regular tennis balls....the kids like the change.
9. All on field coaches must get a background check. See web site and coaches packet.
10. Used equipment, if you can locate, is a good alternative sometimes to new.
11. All parents need to be open to helping as needed but also not be in the way, be flexible.
12. If a parent has an issue with a coach, it is best not to address it immediately as a general rule, but the next day or so after you have been able to think about the situation and calm down. Too many times in the heat of the moment, things get said that are regretted later, and usually done in front of little kids.
13. Support your coach(es) as much as possible....even when it may be hard to do sometimes, they are usually doing the best they can and they at least stepped up and are giving it a go, did you?
