Come out and give speed skating a try! Stay turned for our introductory events for the upcoming season. We will provide the skates. Please bring along the following with you 

 

What you should bring?

• hard shelled helmet (hockey or ski helmet are OK, bicycle helmets are not sufficient)
• eye protection (sport or safety glasses)
• bib style neck guard
• cut proof gloves (leather, heavy nylon or even hockey gloves)
• shin guards/knee pads (soccer style shin guards will work)

We don't have a supply of these items in all sizes, so please be sure to bring this equipment. Most new skaters feel more comfortable in their own stuff as well!

Practice Times (TBC)

 

Monday & Wednesdays 7:00 - 9:20PM (two sessions - times approximate)

• Beginner/Intermediate: 7:00 - 8:00PM

Fees  (TBD)

 

Membership fees outlined below do not include the fees payable to the Ontario Speed Skating Association (OSSA). These fees are required to register a skater to participate in speed skating in the province independent if they participate in any competitions. A large portion of these fees paid to OSSA go to Speed Skating Canada. These fees also fund some insurance for on ice activities. Note that all fees are non-refundable. Payment can be accepted by cash, cheque (payable to the Newmarket Jets Speed Skating Club), or e-transfer.

All registrations will be done via the provincial portal Ice Reg portal (online).

 

Don't have speed skates?  We have skates that are available for rentals for the season.

 

Fees listed below are for skaters joining the Newmarket Jets as full members.  We also offer a four week limited membership that includes skate rental. Skaters who are affiliated with other clubs (guest skaters) have a different fee schedule. The rates below are for Newmarket Jets members only.  Guest skaters will pay a premium to the rates outlined below.  

 

Beginner/Intermediate (1st session)	TBD	Open to all skaters
Intermediate/Advanced - qualifying time required (2nd session)	TBD	Advancement to the 2nd session is based on the Coaches discretion considering times and other factors, including skills and the continued advancement of the skater.
Two nights per week	TBD	Skater attends both the Monday and Wednesday session weekly
4-wk trial membership	TBD	Four consecutive weeks (Monday or Wednesday) of on-ice instruction as part of our regular practice schedule. Also includes skate rental (security deposit required).
Club Skate Rental	TBD	Rental of equimpent for the entire season.  Subject to availability. Security deposit is required.
Meet Coaching Fee	TBD	Helps to cover the costs for coaches attending competitions costs will be added to meet regtistration. Paid for each meet where the skater is registered
Guest Fee*	TBD	Per visit fee (Monday or Wednesday session) for guest skaters from other OSSA clubs - we reserve the right to limit the number of drop-ins based on the number of skaters on the ice. Preference is given to registered full-season or guest skaters with punch-cards.
OSSA Associate member	TBD	Non skaters, family or friends of club members
OSSA Recreational skater	TBD	Fees that are paid to the Ontario Speed Skating Association (OSSA) for  members who do not skate in any sanctioned competitions
OSSA Competitive skater	TBD	Fees paid to OSSA for all skaters that race in any sanctioned events
OSSA Elite skater	TBD	Payable by all skaters who compete at a national level (Speed Skating  Canada events) such as the Canada East Short Track Championships

 

*Guest skaters are required to register with the Jets before their first skate and complete our Interclub form with waiver. Skaters must be a member in good standing of another Ontario club that is an OSSA affiliate. A full season Interclub membership is also available. We reserve the right to limit the number of guest skaters.
