Brightside Basketball Game Play Rules and Policies
Basic Game Play
1. Games will consist of 4 ten minute quarters. Overtimes will be two minutes for first, one minute for all additional quarters. Lower divisions will have sudden death after double overtime.
2. Teams require a minimum of four players to begin game. A fifth player can be added to continue game , however a sixth as not allowed to particiapte should they not be on roster.
3. The clock will be activated after a maximum of five minutes past game scheduled and a team not ready to pay will forgeit their first half time outs.
4. Each season consists of seven games plus payoff unless you're team did not win a single game
5. Free throws will be two shots per shooting foul as well as after five team fouls per quarter.
6. Each player is allowed five personal fouls in REC division and six team fouls in all other divisions.
7. Teams are allowed two time outs per half and one in each overtime. They do not carry over.
8. Each team has specific division qualifications and any protests must be recoreded prior to the start of any game.
9. The clock will stop only during time outs, or in final two minutes of fourth quarter. In addition in final thirty seconds of the game on a made basket provided the game is within ten points.
Game Rules
1. There is an eight second count to move past back court to front court.
2. five second count for player either not dribbling or moving while a defender is within an arms reach of playing defense, whether standing still or moving.
3. Three seconds is considered when both feet are in the painted area. one foot in is not considered and each count resets after a shot attempt.
4. From free throw line, players can move upon release of shot.
5. Ball will be inbounded from baseline at all times, unless after a time out which has to be called by offense after play has started whereas it can be initiated from side court.
6. Clear path to the basket will be called should there be no one between the player and the basket. This will be considred a team foul, and a shooting foul. Clock will stop when this foul is called.
7. Clock will stop upon what is considered an intentiona foul.
8. Continuation will be called when and only the player is fouled in the act of shooting. An additional dribble or maneuver will not constitute a continuation call.
Technical Behavior Penalties
1. A basic non aggressive or player action technical such as six men on the court, will have a 1 shot technical penalty.
2. A disruption in play technical whereas a player is complaining or arguing and it results in a distruption of pay will be a 2 shot penalty after one warning.
3. An aggressive technical which is considrered when there is a threat or an aggressive foul towards a player, team-mate, referee or staff is made. This will result in two shots, two points and the ball.
4. A second aggressive technical will result in removal of game and one game minimum ejection. If the payer does not remove themselves within three minutes, the game will be forfeited by his team.
5. This includes retaliation. A player starting or reacting is subject to the same penalty.
6. When a game is called for behavior, it may result in suspended game the following week.
7. Language is considered a technical foul! The usage of verbal threats and or language in bad taste such as racial slurs, B**tch etc, will not be tolerated. Anyone threatening anyone in anyway will be immediately removed from league without refund!
* This is a no tolerance league! We will not allow constant complaining or disruption of games, much less threats or fighting. Rules will be imposed and teams /players will be penalized as noted. We reserve the right to refuse play to any player or team we find a threat to our mission in creating a safe and fun place to compete. This includes spectators, guests and family members.
