Social Media Policy

Naperville High School Hockey Club Social Media Policy

The Naperville High School Hockey Club (NHHC) understands the importance of social media to the personal and professional lives of its players, parents, coaches and fans. Social media provides great opportunities to share information about NHHC Hockey and to promote team events; unfortunately however, it can also provide a medium for inappropriate conduct. This conduct may be detrimental to the Hockey Club, its players, coaches and parents, and may reflect poorly on Naperville 203 High Schools.

These policies are designed to protect all parties from harassment, bullying, stalking and inappropriate contact or behavior, however they are intended.

The following are some examples of prohibited behavior in online social networking that will result in disciplinary action at the discretion of the NHHC Rules and Ethics Committee:

  • Posting or divulging confidential information that includes but is not limited to: member’s personal information, contact information, medical conditions, injuries and/or other sensitive matters pertinent to the Naperville High School Hockey Club, its players, coaches or parents
  • Posting negative or derogatory comments about any Naperville High School Hockey or competing programs’ players, coaches, staff, parents, programs, or program participants
  • Taking, posting online or otherwise distributing photographs or video of any locker room or locker room activity
  • Posting photographs, video or comments regarding fights, penalties, or other in-game incidents
  • Posting photographs, video or comments promoting inappropriate activities or criminal behavior including but not limited to: drug use, alcohol abuse, public intoxication, sexual exploitation, etc
  • Participating in any online activity that contradicts the current policies of The Naperville High School Hockey Club, as described in the Code(s) of Conduct
  • Posting inappropriate, derogatory, racist, or sexist comments of any kind

Naperville High School Hockey players, coaches and parents must act as if they are representing Naperville High School Hockey Club, our schools and our sport at all times.   Participants in social media are expected to demonstrate discretion and respect when posting online, and hold social networking communications to the same standards applicable to other public forms of communication, including television, radio and print.  If a photo or comment would be inappropriate for all other forms of media, then it should be considered inappropriate for online social networking sites.

Any inappropriate comments, photos, or other material or actions posted online will be reviewed by the club Rules & Ethics Committee for possible sanctions including suspension and/or expulsion from the program.
