What is the connection between college and the ETHS summer program?
The ETHS summer baseball program is an important opportunity for our players to build their baseball skills. It prepares the boys for their next high school season or, in the case of recent graduates, for their first year of college baseball.
Our goal is to provide our ETHS players with a high level of competition and exposure while at the same time working with them, through rigorous practice, to develop their skills and help them become better ballplayers.
Here is what to expect this summer
At the rising sophomore level: The
The focus of the summer program for this group is on individual player development. All freshmen players will be placed on one team that will practice together. Each week we will announce the squad that players will be on for that week for individual games and for tournaments. When one squad is playing a game, the other will be practicing. Team assignments will be based on coach evaluations, skill levels, positional needs and most importantly, commitment. The experience will be rigorous.

Every rising junior and rising senior will play on the Varsity White (U17) team. The schedule is made up of midweek games and three weekend tournaments. Every player on the Varsity White team will have the opportunity to play midweek games. Tournament teams will play to win and players will be assigned to the tournament teams based on coach evaluations, skill levels, positional needs and commitment.

This new team will coordinate its roster and schedule with the high school summer program but will organized as an independent community team. The reason we will have an independent team is so that we can include players who are ETHS graduates headed for their first year of college baseball. The Evanston Naturals is the successor team to the American Legion Post 42 team that provided this highest level of play for the past four years. The Naturals will play regional weekend tournaments against the highest level of U18 competition as well as midweek games against other independent U18 travel teams.
The only permanent players assigned to the Evanston Naturals will be the players who have graduated. All other players will rotate on an off the squad from the Varsity White group.
The Evanston Naturals and Varsity White will practice together.
