VMSL TEAM FEES, PAYMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND NON-PAYMENT POLICY
Notice to All Teams Participating in VMSL
It has come to the attention of VMSL that some teams are experiencing difficulties collecting fees from their players.
The collection of money from individual players is the responsibility of each team and its team representatives. VMSL is not responsible for collecting individual player contributions on behalf of a team.
If a team believes it may have difficulty collecting sufficient funds from its players to meet its financial obligations to VMSL, the team should carefully consider this before registering.
Once a team is registered with VMSL, the team is responsible for ensuring that all applicable VMSL team fees, league fees, dues, assessments, and other approved charges are paid in full by the deadlines established by VMSL.
Acknowledgment of Financial Responsibility
By registering a team or participating with a registered VMSL team, the applicable team owners, coaches, managers, team representatives, and players acknowledge the financial obligations associated with participation in VMSL.
Teams are responsible for collecting any required contributions from their players.
A team's inability to collect money from one or more players does not relieve the team of its obligation to pay amounts owing to VMSL.
Where permitted by the applicable registration terms and Alberta law, persons who have accepted responsibility for team fees may be held individually and/or collectively responsible for amounts owing.
Suspension and Expulsion for Non-Payment
Failure to pay all current VMSL Team Fees by the applicable payment deadline constitutes a violation of VMSL requirements.
Any team that fails to pay its account in full by the required deadline may, at the sole discretion of VMSL, be subject to immediate disciplinary action, including:
-
Suspension from VMSL competition;
-
Removal from scheduled games;
-
Forfeiture of games where applicable;
-
Expulsion from the league;
-
Restrictions on registration or participation; and
-
Any other disciplinary action permitted under VMSL rules and policies.
Where a team is suspended or expelled for non-payment, all coaches, managers, team representatives, and players registered with that team may be declared ineligible to participate in VMSL-sanctioned games, competitions, events, or activities until the outstanding account has been paid in full and the suspension has been formally lifted by VMSL.
No Automatic Exceptions or Extensions
Payment deadlines established by VMSL are firm.
Teams should not assume that an extension, payment arrangement, waiver, or other accommodation will be provided because the team has been unable to collect money from its players.
Any exception or accommodation must be expressly approved by VMSL in writing.
VMSL reserves the right to enforce its payment policies consistently and strictly.
Ineligibility for Future Participation
Any team, coach, manager, team representative, or player associated with an unpaid VMSL account may be declared ineligible for future registration or participation in any VMSL league, division, competition, tournament, program, or activity until all outstanding amounts have been paid in full.
Where permitted by VMSL rules and applicable law, VMSL may also impose additional conditions before approving future participation.
Payment of an outstanding balance does not automatically guarantee future acceptance or registration where additional disciplinary or administrative matters remain unresolved.
Recovery of Outstanding Amounts
VMSL reserves the right to take reasonable and lawful steps to recover amounts that remain unpaid.
Where authorized by the applicable agreement, registration terms, VMSL rules, and Alberta law, recovery may include:
-
Outstanding league or team fees;
-
Applicable interest;
-
Reasonable administrative or collection costs;
-
Court costs;
-
Legal expenses to the extent recoverable by law; and
-
Any other amounts properly owing to VMSL.
Legal Action for Non-Payment
VMSL reserves the right to commence legal proceedings or use other lawful collection methods against any person or organization legally responsible for an unpaid account.
Legal proceedings may be commenced where VMSL determines that reasonable collection efforts have been unsuccessful or where the circumstances otherwise justify legal action.
Nothing in this policy limits any additional remedy or right available to VMSL under its registration terms, league rules, contractual agreements, or the laws of Alberta and Canada.
VMSL Reservation of Rights
VMSL reserves all rights available under its rules, policies, registration agreements, and applicable law.
A decision by VMSL not to enforce any provision of this policy in one particular circumstance does not constitute a waiver of VMSL's right to enforce that provision in the future.
VMSL may amend, update, or replace this policy from time to time.
Registration Constitutes Acknowledgment
By registering with or participating in VMSL, teams and participants acknowledge that they have read and understood the applicable VMSL payment requirements and agree to comply with them.
Each team is responsible for ensuring that its financial obligations to VMSL are satisfied in full and on time, regardless of whether the team has successfully collected contributions from each individual player.
If your team cannot meet its financial obligations to VMSL, the team should not register until it is confident that all required fees can be paid by the applicable deadlines.
