US Lacrosse Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy

The following has been added to the High School Area Chair as the opening statement.  The placement at the beginning of the handbook reflects the commitment US Lacrosse has.

US Lacrosse prohibits and will not tolerate acts of harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Harassment, discrimination or bullying means any gestures, any written, verbal or physical act, or any electronic communication, whether a single incident or a series of incidents that:

  1. Are reasonably perceived as being motivated by either any actual or perceived characteristic, such as race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or a mental, physical or sensory disability.
  2. Takes place in relation to any program function or team; and that a reasonable person should know, under the circumstances, will have the effect of physically or emotionally harming a player or damaging the player’s property, or placing a player in reasonable fear of physical or emotional harm to his/her person or damage to his/her property.
  3. Has the effect of insulting or demeaning any player or group of players or creates a hostile environment for the player by interfering with a player’s participation or by severely or pervasively causing physical or emotional harm to the player. (N.J.S.L 18A:37-14).

Any US Lacrosse award recipient found in violation of this policy will have all honors revoked. Individuals nominated for US Lacrosse honors found in violation will be removed from consideration.

This has been an increasing point of emphasis from US Lacrosse and I wanted to make sure that all parties were aware of it.

All-Academic Award- please note that considerations for this honor are through the end of the first semester of the school year.  You may begin working with your school’s guidance counselor now.  The following are criteria for All Academic awards (I’ve highlighted criteria that is different than previous years:

  • Must complete online nomination before 5/24/23.  Supporting documentation may be submitted now.
  • Juniors and Seniors are eligible
  • Must play in a majority of team’s games
  • Must be a starter or significant contributor to their team
  • Shall have left their mark beyond the lacrosse field and classroom by making significant contributions of service to the school and community
  • Minimum of 3.7 GPA out of 4.0.
  • Transcripts must be included with supporting documents
  • Must not have violated their school code of conduct
  • Must submit the number of unsportsmanlike fouls received during the current year and the opponents that these fouls were committed. This earlier date allows Mike's committee to comfortably review and organize the submissions and thereby be better prepared to select the nominees when the additional data is received by the May 24 deadline.

In 2023, the Chair is JD Kalleward of Portage Northern. Mike Jolly has chaired the Academic All American Committee for many years.  We have worked together on changes to the supporting documents for All Academic and they now reflect the additions of:

We have set it up so the entire nomination can be submitted with the exception of the aforementioned information which can be added after the regular season.

Please note: the need for standardized test scores are changing across the country.  We hope to be able to use these scores, but will consider those that have not taken the tests.  .

No nominations for All-Academic will be considered if deadlines for online nomination (May 17th) and submission of supporting documents (May 17h) have not been met.  Please begin working with your guidance counselors,  and your principals to ensure the proscribed due dates are met.
