The Trojans kicked off the season with a statement win, stomping out the Cougars in a game that was part hockey clinic, part rural strength conditioning showcase.
Returning MVP Jaxon Olson picked up right where he left off last season, cracking the ice with the game’s opening goal to set the tone. But it was the fresh blood that kept the engine running. The rookie trio of Lund, Hartnell, and Hadley, each found the back of the net to round out the scoring, proving the new recruits are more than ready for prime time.
The true highlight of the night, however, happened between the pipes. Veteran goaltender Nick Bertholet delivered an absolute masterclass, neutralizing all but one of the Cougars' offense for an epic season-opening victory.
When asked after the game about the secret behind his massive offseason bulk-up, Bertholet gave all the credit to his family’s farm life and his dad’s legendary frugality.
"My dad is a 'save-any-penny' kind of farmer," Bertholet explained with a grin. "So instead of paying for hydraulic fluid, whenever the combine gets plugged up, he just has me, my sister, and my mom manually hold up the header so he can fix it and get it running again."
Forget fancy gym memberships and heavy squat racks. Nothing builds elite, puck-stopping core strength quite like being human hydraulic equipment on the family farm.
Thanks, Dad. The Trojans owe this big win to you!
