HISTORY

The Georgia Soul Women’s Basketball Organization was established in November of 2015. Birthed under the vision and leadership of Ernesia Wright, a 20 plus year basketball veteran, the Georgia Soul Women’s Basketball Organization has been a positive force since its inception. During their first season in the Women’s Blue-Chip League (WBCBL), the Georgia Soul made several accomplishments. As part of their community service initiatives they hosted free basketball camps for young girls ages 5-18, raised money for families in their community, as well participated in various community service projects.

Additionally, the Georgia Soul finished with an 11-4 record, placing sixth in their region and eventually winning the southeastern regional championship and advancing to the national tournament in San Antonio, Texas. At the conclusion of the season player Lacoya Terry was named “defensive player” of the year and Eboni Fields was named to the “honorable mentions” list.

In 2017, during their second season as the contender for WBCBL national championship, the Georgia Soul continued to make an impact on their local and surrounding communities. They continued to host and participate in several community service projects as well as make a positive impact on their communities. Ending the season with a 15-3, record the Georgia Soul became back-to-back regional champions and advance to the national finals in St. Lois Missouri becoming national champions. In addition to the winning the national title the Georgia Soul would take home several accolades to include, Coach Laron Freeman- Coach of the Year, Khadijiah Cave- Defensive Player of the Year and WBCBL All Stars=1stTeam, as well as Lacoya Terry and Eboni Fields- Honorable Mentions All Star Team. The Georgia Soul left a great impact on the CSRA. It showed the community that through the power of basketball young women could achieve anything that they set their minds to.
