Bremerton reached the championship game of the Sumner Tournament in boys basketball action Friday.
The Knights beat Jefferson 72-57 and will meet Eisenhower, an 80-69 winner over Sumner, for the title tonight at 7:30.
BOYS
* Bremerton 72, Jefferson 57, at Sumner Coach Larry Gallagher said the key to Bremerton's victory was the strong play of their rotating post players Damon Radford, Lars Anderson, Bryan Kruzrock, Kevin Hooker and Ryan Cleveland. The foursome combined for 16 rebounds, allowing the Knights to get out and run the ball.
Junior Everett Williams and senior Jeffrey Gallagher led the Knights (4-3) with 25 and 21 points, respectively.
* Mount Eden, Hayward, Calif. 46, Port Townsend 45 at Ketchikan, Alaska Port Townsend dropped another tight game in the Clark Cochrane Christmas Classic Friday.
The Redskins dropped to 1-5 with four of those losses by three points or less.
"We're kind of struggling that way,'' said PT coach Ryan Robertson. "We had the lead late in the game, but made some critical turnovers and were forced to foul.''
Rich Trevino hit the back end of a 1-and-1 free throw with :07 left to give the Californians the win. PT called timeout, but had a turnover before getting off a shot.
Abe Fox, a 6-7 junior, had 20 points and "about eight blocked shots,'' said Robertson.
PT plays Charles Hays of Prince Rupert, B.C., today in a consolation game.
* North Kitsap 55, St. Michael's, Victoria, B.C. 44 at Victoria David Urban hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 13 points as North used a balanced attack to win its second game in the Pacific Rim Tournament.
North (4-3) meets Mount Douglas of Victoria today.
Mario White scored 12 points and Rico Jones 10. "We hit five threes and got away early and played even after that,'' said NK coach Jim Harney. "We were solid defensively.''
* Concrete 66, at Quilcene 60 Quilcene suffered its first loss of the season, failing to hold on to a 53-46 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Billy Lyamin (4 steals, 3 defensive rebounds), Jeff Smith (3 steals, 3 rebounds) and Ryan Newman (3 blocked shots and 3 rebounds) paced the Rangers (5-1).
LATE THURSDAY
* Central Kitsap 72, at Hoquiam 57 Central ran its winning streak to seven games by beating the hosts in the Hoquiam Holiday Tournament.
The Cougars were led by Josh Ellis' 26 points. CK beat North Delta, B.C., 82-43 in the first round on Wednesday.
Central returns to Olympic League play Wednesday, hosting Sequim.
GIRLS
* Jefferson 58, Bremerton 53, at Sumner Jefferson put this one away at the foul line, making 11 in the fourth quarter and 29 of 40 for the game as it held off the Knights.
Bremerton stayed close throughout, pulling to within a point in the fourth quarter, but never gained the lead.
"We fought all the way,'' said Bremerton coach Doug Wagner. "Jefferson is a real good team.'' Bremerton made 17 of 30 free throws in the rugged contest.
Bremerton (3-3), led by Heather Carter's 16 points, plays the loser of the Eisenhower-Sumner game today in a 2:15 consolation contest.
