BREMERTON, Wash. – For seven and a half minutes Monday night (Mar. 19) the potential of the Warren Ave Boys B Knights was on display, as. Coach Ryan Christian started four of his five top players: Jmiah Smith, Trenton Bulmer, Oliver Christian, and Dillon Lovestedt.
The quartet ran off on a 10-to-2 start and that the remainder of the team extended the lead to 28-to-7 by halftime.
The 45-to-21 final score was Warren Ave’s highest offensive output of the season and its greatest margin of victory, 24 points.
Remarkably, it came against Chico Boys B White, a Boys B Division Two team with a win/loss record identical to the Knights, 6 wins and 4 loses.
Scoring for the Warren was equally distributed, with 8 of the 14 Knights recording at least 2 points. Bulmer and Madden Benson led the team with 8 points each.
The team’s season-highs of 21 field goals on 38% shooting (21/55) was supported by a benchmark number of assists, 13. Bulmer lead the distribution with 5 assists, followed by Christian (3) and Smith (2).
Offense wasn’t the only game Warren Ave played Monday night. Defensively they grabbed a record 29 rebounds, which significantly reduced Chico second-chance opportunities. Smith lead the team with 11 board (4 offensive and 7 defensive), followed by Benson (9), Christian (6), and Jackson Fletcher-Carter (6)
Additionally, the Knights turned 14 steals into 12 points, yes, another season-high. Bulmer had the quickest hands, as noted by his four team-leading steals.
But there are elements of Warren Ave’s game that must be improved upon if they wish to continue advancing in the Kitsap Co. Pee Wee Boys B playoffs.
In the second half, the Knights committed a record 17 turnovers. Fortunately, Chico was not able to turn any of those miscues into points. But, surrendering 43% of your possessions to the other team without a shot attempt is not championship caliber basketball.
Round 2 of the playoff, or more correctly caled the Smi-Finals, will be Thursday night (Mar. 21) at Ridgetop Middle School. At 7:00 p.m. the Knights will tip-off against Chico B Black (4-6), who upset Silverdale B 2 (8-2) in Monday night’s quarter-finals.
