Coach Doherty played at Arundel HS, earning All-Metro honors in helping the team win its second State Championship. After high school, he played four years at George Washington University, where he was named captain of the team and earned MVP honors his senior season. Following college, Coach Doherty severed as a youth coach for 34 years around the Washington/AA County area. After joining the Monarchs staff in 2012, he helped the team win the 2013 NABF 19U National Championship. In only its second season in the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League, the Monarchs won the 2018 MCBL Championship with a record of 23-8. Coach Doherty continues to be involved in college baseball through the participation in MCBL summer league and with his efforts with the GWU baseball program
