2011 All-Star Game a Low Scoring Affair

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Saturday€™s All-Star game, played under beautiful sunny skies, was unexpectedly a very low scoring affair with only one extra base hit the whole afternoon.

The "Home" All-stars hit .350 with 8 players pounding out 14 hits enroute to a 3-0 victory over the "Visiting" All-star squad. The "Home" squad put runners on base every inning except two when pitchers Sam Coe of the Rockville Storm and Brian Brusoe of the Gaithersburg Giants shut them down with 3 straight outs in the 7th and 9th innings.

The "Visiting" squad put runners on third base in five different innings but stranded all five of them. They mustered just 5 singles but coupled with 5 walks and 1 hit batsman had runners on base every inning except two when pitchers Nick Karsos of the Putty Hill Panthers Blue and Dan Druzgala of the Maryland Orioles shut them down with 3 straight outs in the 3rd and 9th innings. The "Visiting" squad was able to keep it close as their pitchers didn't walk a single batter and they played errorless baseball while turning two double plays to end threats.

Shortstop Anthony Ortiz of the Maryland Orioles was named the game€™s MVP. Anthony had a perfect day at the plate going 3 for 3 and scored the games first run which turned out to be the game winner.
