The Baltimore Chop won the second game Friday night at Joe Cannon Stadium to clinch their second straight tournament championship!
Dig In Baseball won the first game of the night 3 - 0 with a combination of outstanding pitching and defense, along with clutch hitting. The victory forced the "If" game of the championship, and was only the second loss of the season for the Chop!
Andrew Hutson brought home the winning run to give Dig In Baseball the lead in the sixth inning. Michael Wright singled to get on base in the sixth. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Kyle Weidemeyer.Samuel Kane had two extra-base hits for Dig In Baseball. He doubled in the seventh and ninth innings.
Cory Callahan worked out of three difficult moments for Dig In Baseball. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs on four hits. Cory Callahan faced his toughest moment in the seventh inning.
Despite the loss, Baltimore Chop's Andrew Monger dominated Dig In Baseball's batters, giving up one run and striking out five.
Dig In Baseball tacked on another two runs in the ninth. Samuel started the inning with a double, scoring Chris Godfrey. That was followed up by Michael Wright's single, plating Samuel.
In the nightcap, the Baltimore Chop secured their second tournament championship by beating Dig In Baseball 13-1 after pouring in seven runs in the sixth inning.
Robbie Harris racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Chop. He doubled in the fifth and sixth innings and singled in the seventh inning.
Steven Ridings pitched lights out for the Chop. Dig In managed just two hits off of Ridings, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out one during his six innings of work.
The game's last lead went to the Chop thanks to a third inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a sacrifice fly by Robbie and an RBI single by Nick Marinelli.
The entire tournament was competitive all week long. Almost every game was a close, well played event, with excellent pitching, well played defense and clutch hitting. It was truly a week of exciting baseball and an excellent example of the caliber of ball played this season in the MCBL
We wish to congratulate Dave Schilling of the Chop as he steps aside from the head coach position of the Chop and focuses on being their GM. Two championships in a row is some way to go out!
