Sloppy Season Concludes
July 18, 2025
One of the rainiest MCBL regular seasons ever has finally concluded....as usual with a downpour.
We want to acknowledge the dedicated effort of all the fans, players, coaches, umpires who often traveled 1-2 hours (each direction) or more only to find their game cancelled at the last minute, or delayed again and again due to rain or lightning (and then outright cancelled).
We also want to thank the general managers and coaches of each team who time and time again had to scramble to find open dates, fields, and arrange for umpires in a tremendous effort to play as many of the 28 scheduled games for each team as possible. We're sure family, fans and players don't fully understand the time, energy and trouble they went to, but certainly appreciated the fruits of their efforts.
Congratulations to the Baltimore Chop for winning the MCBL Regular Season Championship. It's their fifth regular season championship.....most ever in MCBL. They must feel that mother nature conspired to prevent them a chance to notch the elusive and esteemed plateau of 20 wins in the regular season.
The seedings for the MCBL Post-Season tournament are fairly obvious.......just look at the final standings and you'll see they are in perfect order (e.g., the Baltimore Chop are the #1 seed, followed by #2 seed Putty Hill Panthers, etc.).
Finally, with all the rain, we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge what must labeled an "oh, so close" moment.
You may recall that we previously mentioned earlier in the year that the Putty Hill Panther's Zach Stolze was attempting to break one of the oldest MCBL records: number of triples in a season.....5.
During Wednesday's game, Zach hit his 6th triple....only to have the game ended prematurely due to (what else) rain. Because the game didn't last five innings, it is not an official game and none of the player's performances/statistics officially count.
Zach was less than 2 innings away from having his name in sole possession of the record.....during a rain-shortened season. Despite this, we have already proudly added his name as sharing the all-time record.
Hopefully, mother nature will be kinder to all the teams during the upcoming MCBL Post-Season Tournament.
See ya at the ballfield!
