The National Amateur Baseball Federation gathered in Louisville, Kentucky for its 111th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. One award was given to CSBL Manager, Fred LeSage. He received the Ronald E. McMinn Award for a lifetime of dedication and support of amateur baseball and contributions to the Chicago Suburban Baseball League. Presenter, Paul Wolf of Buffalo, offered these words:
On the field, Fred is a leader, a friend, a husband, father, and grandfather, to name a few titles. A two-time champion, in our small world. A passioanate coach, beloved by his players.
- As a Beecher Muskie since 1978... player turned manager, well over 45 years of dedication to guiding young men down a path to success both on and off the field.
- As for the Muskies, 20 appearances on the World Series stage, with 2 runner ups and 2 national championships. You can always count on a Muskie team to make the weekend.
- Fred is a staple within our NABF organization, and well respected by all. A hardnosed worker in everything he does. Very soft spoken about huimself and his accomplishents. He was recently inducted into the Illinois Sports Hall of Fame. Upon receiving the award he said, "I think there are people they should be putting here before me. I can think of 20 people they could pick before me. It's very nice to be noticed, I guess. When you are out there doing it every day, you aren't doing it for recognition."
That's Fred. Straight forward and honest. As we all know, outside of our baseball family is the family that allows all this to happen, and I'd be amiss if we didn't mention Terri and the reset of Fred's family that allow him to do what he loves: coach and win with the Muskies.
Members of the CSBL have received several NABF awards over the years. Fred received the NABF "Man of the Year" award in 2014. Larry Kurkowski received the "Man of the Year" award in 2012, and Jeff Vukovich received the same award in 2023. Sam Hamstra received the "Ronald McMinn" award in 2017.
