Wadsworth Youth Softball
Parent Code of Conduct Policy
Wadsworth Youth Softball, referred to as WYS, has adopted this Parent Code of Conduct Policy with the goal of promoting positive behavior and interaction among players, coaches, managers, umpires, and spectators, and to ensure an enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
As a parent of a child playing in WYS, the following "Expectation of Conduct" will apply at all WYS games, practices, and other league-related activities:
As a WYBSA parent/legal guardian, I therefore agree:
I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for the children, not for the adults.
I will teach my child that doing one’s best is the most important thing, so they never feel defeated by the outcome of a game.
I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and I will emphasize skill development over winning.
I will never ridicule or yell at my child or any other participant for making a mistake or losing a game.
I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
I (and my guests) will be a positive role model and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect, courtesy, and positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators.
I (and my guests) will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct such as booing, taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language/gestures.
I will demand that my child treat others with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, ability, national origin, or sexual orientation.
I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices unless I am an official coach for that team.
I will respect the umpires and league officials. I will never dispute, challenge, or argue a decision, nor will I confront them at the field.
I will respect the coaches and their authority. I will never question or confront coaches in front of the children and will speak with them at a pre-arranged time and place.
I will remember that all coaches are donating their time for the benefit of the community.
I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or others.
I will follow social distancing guidelines set by local and state authorities.
I will maintain a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco (including vaping), and I will refrain from their use at all league events.
I will not enter the dugout during a game unless previously agreed upon with the head coach.
I agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary actions by WYBSA that could include, but are not limited to:
Verbal warning by an official, head coach, and/or WYBSA Board Member.
Written warning.
Parental game suspension or immediate ejection from the event.
Suspension for multiple events or the entire season.
As a parent and/or legal guardian of a registered player in the WYBSA, your acceptance of this Code of Conduct is a requirement of the registration process.
