About the Speed Skating Club
The Newmarket Jets were founded in 1996 and have grown to become one of the fastest growing speed skating clubs in the province.  In recent years, Bill Allen and Don Ego's tireless efforts were responsible for growing the club to what it is today. Bill stepped down as president in the 2013-14 season and passed the reigns to Diane Simpson as the new president. Diane has been an active parent and supporter of the club, including the two years as Club Vice President. The Club Executive is supported by a Family Advisor Board that includes parents of skaters and Bill as Past President. Head coach Paula McConvey has developed an outstanding program for new skaters, competitive racers and leisure skaters alike. Together with the other members of her coaching team, Paula has developed many elite athletes and is well respected across the speed skating community.  We are fortunate to have her in Newmarket leading our program!

The Jets moved to the Magna Center when it opened in 2007 and skate on the Olympic sized Bobby Forhan arena. This is an outstanding facility for speed skating. The club has also hosted several regional and provincial championship events at the Magna Centre.  It is a favourite stop for many skaters during the competitive season.
